Water It Down

Water It Down

Water; a tasteless, odorless, colorless chemical (H2O) element, vital for life, and, despite not providing food, energy, or macronutrients is the most powerful and impactful substance we put in our bodies.

Exciting and interesting stuff right?! In my defense, they did make an entire movie dedicated to the delivery of this vital substance- “Waterboy” circa 1998.

But for real, while not the sexiest subject in the world, water (and making sure you are drinking enough) is one of the most important things you can do to not only hit your goals within the gym but to live your best life.

Let’s start with a basic fact.  We as humans are 60%-ish water.  Yet many of us walk around dehydrated to an extent (whether we realize it or not).  That is a problem.

Water is essential for many functions internally but also has an external effect as well (ageless skin, I’m looking at you!).

Underconsumption of water can mimic fatigue, cause brain fog, and decrease performance in both life and the gym.

Internally, you may not be digesting food as optimally as you could, and this could impair certain bodily functions (that require water).

The fix?

Start drinking more water.  In practice, this could look like adding a glass of water to your morning routine, taking a water bottle to work, and making sure you drink at least one full bottle or having a glass at each meal.  No matter how you split it up or add it to your day, more water is a must.

And how do you know you are hydrated?  Well, as gross as it sounds, take a look at your pee color (bet ya didn’t see that coming).  If it is too clear, you’ve drunk too much.  Dark yellow? Drink more.  Light yellow? Nailed it.

So in closing, drink more water friends.  It is good for you.  Your mind and body will thank you.
